lost colonies, other servers
I find myself disconcertingly losing track of weblogs, out there in cyberspace...I realize they aren't going anywhere, aren't even being seen...but nonetheless, I don't want to lose them. They have my name on them. So, I've begun to reach out and grab them.
My xanga site was the place where I was keeping track of weblog servers: which was easier to use, etc. The point here was to find one that all of our students could use easily, user-friendly even to limited-English students. That site always had cockroaches crawling around the top of it though and I got out of the habit of checking in. Finally I lost track of most of them, until recently, when I put them on the template. Blogger was best in spite of all its troubles; it's the champ, we stuck with it. The "try to colonize others" message at ceslstudents is being largely ignored and I will probably take it off soon. To get a mini-tour of the first five, take a look at the bottom of the template. You're on your own for the rest...
I may, however, put that list here. Why not?

bg colors, old business, rogues
I've now transferred over 115 pages over into the new system. Lots of history is going by the wayside. In the process I'm learning what new pages go well with the template, also having lots of template problems, as I'm not a born web-designer and it doesn't come too easy.
Here are some background colors that I find interesting. I'm now trying them out on Safari, Firefox, etc. (Often they're not half as good on others as they are on mine...frustrating).
Yellow: (fcfccd) article by me
(good on ie)(bad on safari)
Sickly brown: (e9e9b9) role of the web
(good on ie)(bad on safari)
plain gray (ceslback doesn't work): (c0c0c0) travel page
(good on ie)(ok on safari)
gray ceslback (images/ceslback.gif): magazine page
(ok on ie)(terrible on safari)
off-white speck1: (images/speck1.jpg): class help
(ok on ie)(ok on safari)
ivory: (px/ivory.jpg): go places
(ok on ie)(ok on safari)
yellow-brown (coming) (fcfccd)
silver (coming) (cccccc)
tan (coming) (ffcc99)
The problem is looking at the various backgrounds with different machines, different browsers, etc. Time to get started. There are more possible backgrounds too, I'm sure.
As for old friends & the like, it's too bad to see them go, but life goes on & so do we. I'll be using this space to store things while I try to figure out what to do with them, but I thought I'd mention my old friends, Bonnie, Clyde, Jessie, and Pretty Boy Floyd, who have all been my friends through this process and who I wouldn't want to disappear entirely.
