Mixed news on the blog report, which as you know comes at the top of every month. Of my top ten personal blogs, seven are trending up, eight are running at a rolling average (3-mo. combined, divided by 3) over 100. Yes believe it or not I calculate all that every month for every blog, just to keep a page full of numbers. I look it over, try to make a strategy, and then forget about it for a month, except that I try to post on twelve of them total. Any twelve, I don't pressure myself.
So last month I posted twelve by about the 21st, so I figured that was pretty good and I kicked back for about a week. This month I have a new book and as soon as I get that on my blog, I'll have at least half a dozen. If only I could be so diligent on my Facebook and Instagram, I'd have me a pr program.
Some months it seems somewhat futile if not ridiculous. I have this one dead blog, it has things my Chinese students wrote back when I put their writing on a blog. They liked that and looked at it for a while but, as I said, it's pretty dead now, it gets about one viewer a month if I'm lucky; I'm not sure why I even keep track. Well, on the 22nd of March it got 74, all in one day. More than it's gotten for a year or two easy. My explanation is this: maybe they put it on the blogger carousel. When they do that, anyone who clicks random blogs (by just clicking the icon repeatedly, scrolling through random blogs) gets that one. Free views. Now if I were clever, I'd have some good pop art on it, you click onto my page, you buy something cool. I'm not selling anything cool, not selling anything at all really, but that's kind of my goal for the whole system. People like my blogs, maybe they'll try something else.
So I have all these cool blogs, and what that means is that I have some chance for commercial success. They've been around for a while; people know what they are. They don't really have commercial purposes; well, 28 don't, 7 do, but fortunately I can afford to mix them up a little. It's a blog empire. All organized time-wise, backwards, impossible.
