What can I say? They're drifting into malaise. About 40 blogs, most of them down, some of them entirely redundant or outdated. I have a good excuse this month - I've been preoccupied by moving, and am now in Illinois - but nevertheless, no doubt they need some overhaul.
Maybe I could start with this one, which was named after the Land of Lincoln, and indeed I will be resurrecting all old pictures of Illinois license plates etc. I do love the state. I did intend "linkin" to be a pun on html links which this blog was full of (see archives). It is, these days, a marketing blog. How does one take 40 blogs and turn them into viable possibilities of readers who might buy one's books? I have to admit I still have no clue.
One obscure blog had an interesting month. It's called ESL Corner, and it was intended simply to hold links I'd collected, like job links, or where the various international TESOL organizations are, on the web. Buried in obscurity, usually it gets 2 clicks a month; it hasn't been updated in maybe ten years. Last month it got over four thousand. What happened? Often I figure someone put it on the blogger carousel - if that happens it will pick up a few - but in this case, I don't know - maybe lots of ESL people are looking for jobs.
Illinois is gentle, peaceful, warm. Lots of rain up here, grass and flowers, different colors, that kind of thing. We're in a small town that seems to like being somewhat sleepy and only being nice to you on its own terms. No problem with that. We have four dogs, so we're trying to lay low, if that's even possible, and not antagonize the townfolk. We'll spend the month in Monmouth and then move to Galesburg in early July sometime.
Maybe it's time to make one for Galesburg.
