Blog report May 1

I put my honest feelings about all my fruitless marketing efforts here. Another place I vent my anger is the yeah write writing site which used to (still does) hold sample stories but is now an author's venting site. The reason it does both is that it's not on google. People still manage to find it anyway.

Blogs were good this month; even after last month, when like 35 out of 36 were up, this month, maybe 33 out of 36 were up. And they were up from last month's figures which were already up. So things are looking better. Sometimes a hundred people a month are checking in on some of them. A couple of esl ones seemed to be on the carousel or something; they had unusually high numbers.

I don't get a huge number of comments; I don't even check for them very regularly, and this could be a weakness. On some blogs your comment is not even published until I see it and I often don't even see it. So that makes it kind of dead-end in terms of a real public communicating device. I guess I see it as more of a public storing-of-opinion device. It's my public record of things I've done and said and cared about over the years. But all that is pretty selfish in terms of my expecting it to generate any actual book sales. If I really want them to be commercial I have to have good art and stimulating provocative pieces that actually do something in this world. I'm not sure I have that. Just because a couple thousand people are checking in, doesn't mean it's doing anything at all.

The other thing that's clear is that, just because I'm getting a dozen of them lighting up once a month, doesn't mean I'm really keeping up. I'm not. The billboards (posts) that advertise my books need updating. Covers change and I don't change the blogs. My pamphlet page needs updating. I need to step on my own toe here.

Here's a start. May 2, and once again I'm resolving to do my job.
