June blog report, a little late

blog visits were mostly up, with the exception of the top ten personal blogs, of which only three were up. among the rest of them, all were up except for one commercial one and two personal ones. i keep track of a few dead ones, and they were mixed. altogether there are 36 live ones, 8 of them commercial, and 6 dead ones in the mix. as i look at the big picture i always think, how poorly i have connected them to my books (in most cases, not at all). they developed organically according to my needs.

in a lot of cases they represent things i was really interested in at one time, but don't have time to keep pursuing. for example where u at w/chat is about how informal writing should be taken seriously by linguists because it is playing such an important role in human communication. actually it is being taken seriously, but i'm not there, and therefore can't really post on it regularly except to say, i'm still here and i still care. some of these blogs hold things that i want to keep and so the problem becomes, do i really have a time-ordered memory, so that i can dredge up some post or some information based on knowing that it's april 2014, for example? no. stuff is hidden in there, in plain sight, but still hidden. nobody, even me, knows how to find it or has the time to by brute force go through everything until they find something interesting. a real careful job of indexing might help this situation, and i would consider that, but i have no time.

the one thing i'd still like to talk about and don't, is playing on the bog. i've always maintained that the three best things about the internet are google, blogger, and boggle; the boggle site is absolutely free and non-commercial, which makes it a joy, in my opinion. there's a community of people on there that i've known in a limited way for years. but i'm not sure if i'll start this blog soon, because i've become very busy door-dashing, too busy even to write, really. door-dashing, by virtue of intense concentration involved for getting opportunities and then driving, is sucking up all my energy, along with intensive work i've been doing on a house involving sanding and staining floors.

another month goes by, by the way i'm in the habit of using lower-case because of my main blog which has been going for years and now has almost a quarter million total visits, more than any of the others and more than all the commercial ones combined. doesn't mean a thing.
