October 1 - show your colors
Blog visits are way up - not sure if there's a relation with a mystical uptick in sales, but I'd like to think so, and it could be. If so it's not because I've cleaned up the templates in any way. The sales all come from the US and are scattered around quite a bit. It's hard to make a causal inference.
Nineteen of the top twenty personal blogs got over a thousand visitors, and another four personal ones did as well. The press website got over thirteen thousand, a very rare event; one can only surmise that people are grabbing that address out of the books themselves, or coming over from one of the other blogs. I might be able to investigate further. Where are these thirteen thousand coming from? If they're on the press website obviously they are a step closer to buying. As good as news can get.
I got back on social media this month and literally did a blitz - Twitter, Bluesky, FB, Insta, even LinkedIn. Why not? But the sales actually preceded the blitz, and died once it really got under way; that's a generalization. It was like, now that you're on social media, we're not going to buy anymore. One sale did result from a kindle promo/media blitz but, while that gave me motivation, it didn't continue; it was an isolated incident. And here I am counting a single sale as a big deal. To be serious I'll have to have a lot more of those. And social media exposure has its own price: marketers spamming me, etc. Though I "will follow" I'm not really interested in marketers. And Twitter keeps locking my account, as if leaving the same comment on several writers lifts is spam. It's not! It's genuine promotional material.
Sigh...I've become a marketer.
